Caesarean Birth: Experience, Practice & History

This book examines women's experiences of caesarean birth from its origins through to present day. Historical developments, along with the differing ideologies and diverse attitudes surrounding the much debated subject of intervention in childbirth are discussed. A study carried out by the author in 1991/2, with a follow up survey in 1996, examines the effects of caesarean sections on women to see whre improvemnts can be made to enable a better outcome of surgical birth for the mother, child and health professional.
