Hendree's Cure

Blending fiction and documentary, the short stories recreate the lives of the Madrasi villagers of Berbice, Guyana in the 1950s and 1960s. With their drum-laden music and worship of Mother Kali at the heart of their lives, these fishermen, rice farmers and market traders speak directly to the reader in their pungent and elegant creole.
