Description ▲
Percy Hobart was one of the greatest military thinkers of his time. Sidelined by the military establishment, he was brought out of retirement at the insistence of Winston Churchill in the lead up to Overlord. Hobart provided the British part of the Allied landing forces with all kinds of unique variants of established military vehicles, specially designed to overcome the peculiar obstacles expected in a beach landing in such heavily defended territory. There is considerable evidence to suggest that had the Americans adopted more of these variants, known by the British as "Hobart's Funnies," some of the losses at Omaha Beach might have been avoided.
