Parents take care of their children's financial needs until they leave education, but from then on a child needs to be independent financially. It's therefore crucial that children understand money and how to manage it. In this story there is a lot going on in Billy's life at school and at home-all of which have a financial costs. The school is looking to introduce tablet computers, and wants parents to make a donation, and there is a new football team being set up requiring new kit and boots. At home Billy's granddad is facing a medical operation, and he's coming to convalesce with Billy's family. Jacko, Billy's dog has as accident, as has Billy's father. So extra household bills, plus vet bills, and a new car, all have to be paid for. Billy wants a new skateboard but finds out he cannot have everything all the same time without earning, and saving, his own money.
