National Identity & Heritage of India

The concept of this book has grown out of author's experience in teaching at Canadian and American schools and universities. The book can be used as a text book or to supplement any standard course on India or Indian culture. Using information with an analytical approach which examines the diverse and often contradictory nature of identity and cultural heritage, this book introduces the reader to the depth and complexity of the subject. Based on facts obtained from primary sources supplemented with interpretations of both past and present scholars, the critical approach makes the reader aware of the intellectual and practical issues facing India at the present time. In addition, this book provides a perceptive account of the historical and geographical influences, political intrigues, effects of invasions and occupation, and religious differences into the social, economic, political, spiritual and cultural situation of this region. The total number of issues and topics, and the length of each segment are designed to meet the requirements of the academic year.
