University Health Physics

The material presented in this text covers the many diverse areas of health physics inherent in a campus setting. In addition to some "back-to-basics" topics such as instrumentation, calibration, measurements, and development and implementation of an internal radiation safety program, areas discussed include: accelerators (types, principles, uses, operational safety and dosimetry, and radiation fields and shielding); medical uses in medical center applications; security of radioactive materials with specific regard to control of sealed sources; and a representative mix of subject matter such as control of non-ionizing sources, safety and compliance for research at remote locations, qualification standards for university and medical radiation safety officers, performance-based radiation safety program reviews, and other managerial and organizational considerations.
