Description

In this unique approach to the utopian, the author argues for a non-conventional view influenced by philosophical orientations such as feminist philosophy, Anglo-American political philosophy and especially hermeneutical phenomenology.  The book presents a conceptual framework for rethinking a more situated and realistic understanding of the utopian, and a view that is practically relevant to  pressing issues in ethical and political life.  To aid in this effort, Elements of the Utopian draws on concrete examples--like the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission--to show that being "utopian" in our contemporary setting is a particular kind of thinking, but also a way of living that keeps alive the demand for emancipatory thought.
