Description ▲
I think most evangelicals want something in the writing realm: I think they’d like to find top-notch writers of their own persuasion who are recognized outside their cloistered groups, recognized for being able to compete with the best of our day, someone they can learn from and hold up as an example of exceptional writing. But I suggest this instead: strive to become that person. These articles focus on two main issues: 1) how evangelicals can write better, and 2) why they should write for crossover or mainstream audiences in lieu of the rather recent, and exclusive, genre called “Christian Fiction,†but I also believe both dovetail nicely into one disturbing though congruent truth: Evangelicals of all people should be impressive in their accomplishments in the world of literature and the arts, and they’re not. At the end of each blog post / article, you’ll find a “Hash it Over†section where you can review, by yourself or in a group, these concepts. I hope you find them useful. Much is wrong in the evangelical writing community just as it is in the mainstream writing community, but refusing to address the first because of the second is folly indeed.
