The Fountain of Life: Understanding The Fear of God

The truth, and Dave's position, is that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of God. God is after all God. He does not care what our ideas and opinions are. Nor should he. He is King and Lord. He operates in time from an eternal perspective. His ways are unfailingly accurate. He is eager to show himself to anyone who will search for him with all of his heart, However, he is unflinchingly resolute in his opposition to the proud, the haughty and the self absorbed. Whoever imagines himself wise in his own eyes, God will eventually show him as foolish. Whoever fears the Lord God will discipline him so that he may be a fit vessel to carry the word of the Lord and the presence of God. When Christ is revealed, whoever fears him will be revealed with him. In this time of unbridled narcissism and self congratulatory views, both in the church and in society at large, Dave's book is a refreshing reminder of a foundational but neglected truth. A return to the fear of the Lord is a matter of critical necessity if the Body of Christ is going to reverse the trend of frequent ridicule and contempt with which it is currently regarded. And if the lived of believers are going to be fit to carry the glory of God they must be purified with the fear of the Lord. Like a refiner's fire, the fear of the Lord must remove the accretions of self importance and the infatuation with human ideas and methods for the advancement of the things of God.
