Sam edged through the doorway. The cramped interior brimmed with gleaming metallic objects smothered within tangles of wires. “That looks like a Tesla generator,” he blurted. Mr. Istravsky swept his arm through the air, his blue eyes sparkling. “All are Tesla generators.” “What do you do with them?” Sam asked in a hushed voice. “Experiments,” said Mr. Istravsky in a tone meant to preempt further questioning. Sam furrowed his eyebrows. After a long moment, he took the wildest of wild guesses. “Dark energy?” Sam Lucas is a bored high school junior on summer break, but life is about to take a dramatic turn. His brilliant and secretive neighbor, Mr. Istravsky, assisted by his young niece Mattie, has created a time portal, unleashing a terrible chain of events. Sam and Mattie must now travel back to the year1899 in a desperate attempt to reach Nikola Tesla’s laboratory?their only hope to restore the future of mankind.
