Jahrbuch Des Deutschen Archaologischen Instituts 2003: Band 118 (German Edition)

In its Jahrbuch, which first appeared in 1885, the German Archaeological Institute annually publishes some ten or more papers dealing mainly with topics from Classical Archaeology, i.e. Greece and Rome; occasional topics are also treated from Early Byzantine or Early Islamic Studies or from Early Anatolian and Western European History. Over the last decades, the contents have become more specialised and broader, encompassing the history of art and style, iconography, hermeneutics, typology, the compilation of material and the reconstruction of works of sculpture and architecture. Each volume of the generously appointed work covers a variety of topics. Articles are published in German, English, French or Italian. The Jahrbuch does not contain any excavation reports, news items or book reviews; it concentrates on critical discussion of known largescale archaeological sites. With this concentration and its critical apparatus, complemented if required by catalogue details, it represents the current state of-the-art in research.
