Description

Sep Ruf is considered one of the most important architects of the postwar era in West Germany. His light and transparent buildings reflect a whole new attitude towards architecture after years of dictatorship. Some of them have become landmarks of German democracy, like the Pavillions for the 1958 World Fair in Brussels or the bungalow for the German Chancellor in Bonn. This book presents an overview of Ruf’s career, which began with smaller projects just before and during the Third Reich, but took a whole new turn with the manifold tasks that came along with the reconstruction of Germany’s destroyed cities after World War II. The publication incorporates a comprehensive list of Ruf’s oeuvre and assesses all of his important works, such as the Academy of Art and the Nationalgermanische Museum in Nuremberg.
