Synchronization Algorithms for OFDM Systems: Using the Example of WLAN

The objective in this book is to analyzesynchronization algorithms for OFDM systems using theexample of the standard IEEE802.11a (WLAN). The basicprinciples for OFDM systems are described and anoverview on the recent technologies is given.Impairments that may occur in a digital transmissionare explained such as time, frequency and phaseerrors and their consequences are discussed indetail. The state-of-the-art synchronizationtechniques for the time domain are summarized,whereas the implementation aspects are always takeninto account. A developed environment is described,which has been written in the language SystemC tosimulate a transmission system with fixed-pointrepresentation. Furthermore, the implementedsynchronization algorithm is explained in detail andthe results are shown.
