Management of Domestic Solid Waste in Ethiopia: Operational Analysis and Assessment of Constraints in Bahir Dar Town, the Capital of Amhara National Regional State, Ethiopia

Poor solid waste management is causing serious environmental and health problems in Bahir Dar town.The solid waste management service is characterized by its irregularity, unreliability and inefficiency. The purpose of this book is to examine the operational processes and associated institutional ,financial,and socio-cultural constraints. The result of the study disclose that inefficient organizational structure, shortage and frequent turn over of workers, inequitable distribution and inappropriate placement of facilities, lack of financial & legal instruments, poor handling of waste by the community are the major factors affecting the management. This book also provides recommendations on efficient and effective management of solid waste.
