With annual global sales of $5 billion, tapered roller bearing consumers increasingly value energy efficient products. Bearing producers promote energy efficient bearings based on their abilities to grind rollers to reduced radial deviation from round. Bearing designers, however, do not understand how roller geometries specified place limitations on roller roundness. This work answers that question.
