Description

Ten types of symptoms were recorded on eighteen varieties of Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) during December 2010 to May 2012. The symptoms were early spot with yellowish hallow, late spot (Tikka disease), rust, anthracnose, Colletotrichum leaf spot (small), Colletotrichum leaf spot (large), Pleospora leaf spot, Alternaria leaf spot, Cylindrocladium leaf spot and stem rot. A total of 48 species of fungi representing 24 genera were found to be associated with Arachis hypogaea, which belongs to one genus of Zygomycetes, three genera of Ascomycetes, one genus of Basidiomycetes and 19 genera of Deuteromycetes. Curvularia ovoidea, C. uncinata, Fusarium buharicum, Fusarium heterosporum, Pleospora sp., Robillarda sp. are new records for Bangladesh. All the isolated fungi were tested for their pathogenic potentiality and five fungi were found pathogenic to Groundnut. The fungi were Colletotrichum acutatum, Colletotrichum dematium, Colletotrichum orbiculare, Colletotrichum sp.1 and Fusarium semitectum.
