Description

Eri silk is unique, lustrous and behaves like wool with its bulk and thermal properties. This book deals with characterization of Eri Silk fibre, yarn and fabric properties. Eri silk extracted from the cocoons are long, almost continuous and they need to be cut into required lengths for spinning yarns. Eri spun silk yarns are expected to be of high utility in the manufacture of a range of fabrics. It is observed that the yarns are well suited for knitting. Eri fabric properties such as drape, air permeability, fabric mass, crimp, cover factor, crease recovery, fabric elongation are showing favorable results compared to mulberry. Further eri silk fabrics shows better air permeability, fabric mass, flexural rigidity, cover factor, fabric elongation compared to mulberry. Also eri reflect better results in bursting strength, air permeability compared to mulberry. From Kawabata Evaluation System (KES – F) values it is seen that low stress mechanical properties under different blocks like tensile property, bending property, surface property, shearing property, compression, weight and thickness of eri silk fabrics are equivalent to those of mulberry fabrics.
