Description

The purpose of this report is to provide an overview on how to fulfill the declaration of HH the Amir of Qatar that by 2020, the country should produce at least 2% of electric power (EP) by solar energy. The use of solar energy to generate EP became a priority for Qatar to mitigate carbon dioxide, methane and/or other emissions that cause global warming and pollute the environment by burning fossil fuel (usually natural gas) in conventional power production. Solar energy diversifies, and presents sustainable, clean, and infinite energy supply for EP production. The use of solar energy to generate EP redirects fossil energy sources to other energy sectors which continue relying on these fuels for a longer time period. The surplus oil can be directed for chemical and transportation usage. Similarly the surpluses of natural gas resource can be exported to other countries. All the Gulf co-operation countries (GCC) are short of natural gas supply, except in Qatar, and need to import natural gas. Thereby, the additional income of gas exports covers the additional expenditures for using solar power generation.
