Description

A clean and healthy environment is essential to the realization of fundamental human rights in which environmental rights is inclusive and yields great benefits for human existence. The study examines environmental injustice: the blind side of e-waste in Agbobloshie in the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metro of Accra Metropolitan Assembly. A case study method was used in the study because of its relevance in contemporary developmental issues related to environmental rights. The age representation of the e-waste workers revealed a disheartening fact where children age between 5-15 years were used for various work being carried out at the site. The study revealed that lager scale of importation of used electronics and electrical goods in the country was in ascendency. The study found that the conditions endured by the scrap dealers and residents violate their right to a clean and safe environment. Based on the evidence from the study, it is recommended that to curtail these environmental effects, the various authorities such as Ministries of Trade and Industry, Science and Environment, and agencies like EPA, AMA should strictly enforce and amend existing laws on e-waste disposal.
