Description

With the globalization movement, universities are looking for ways to bring education to the student rather than waiting for students to come for education. Therefore, opening a branch campus abroad became an alternative for U.S. universities. There are many challenges in teaching at such a campus and administering such a campus. Of course, there are exceptions, and those exceptions are trying to provide as high quality education as they can, given the lack of English language skills of Chinese students, financial considerations when paying the Chinese staff and U.S. teachers, and sociocultural issues when dealing with staff members, Chinese partners, and students. However, it is time for such branch campuses to teach-out, pack their bags, and continue recruiting students for the home campus, if they are concerned with the quality of their degrees. These programs weaken the academic quality and reputation of U.S. degrees. There should either be an organization monitoring the quality of these programs or it is high time for U.S. universities teach out, pack and leave because there is a serious concern about how ‘American’ ‘the American education’.
