Description

The tannery industries effluent contain variety of chemicals & heavy metals which are not only carcinogenic & mutagenic but also affect the plant & animal life and Bio-accumulated. Agriculture production in many countries is being heavily affected by the reckless discharge of these effluents to the water bodies which are the main source of irrigation. These heavy metals and pollutants are absorbed and accumulated in different plant and animal parts affecting growth and metabolism. The present investigation was aimed to study the effect of chromium and tannery effluent on crops as they constitute the important dietary constituent for man and cattle's. Here the tannery effluent was tried for irrigation purpose with combinations of nutrients i.e. Zinc, Potassium and Iron. As per experimental observation 25% dilution levels of tannery effluent may be used for irrigation purpose with combination of essential micro-and macro- nutrients at proper intervals with out significant loss. The study should help shed some light on the toxicological effect of Cr and tannery effluent and to establish reutilization strategies of various effluents for irrigation.
