Description

This book explores slave mother-child relationship in Tony Morrison’s Beloved and Harriet Jacobs’ Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. The role of women and mothers in American slave history is demonstrated to understand the slave women and mothers’ representation in both selected works. Black slave women and mothers’ representation in the literary works about slavery is a main point of the exploration. For the purpose of the assessment, Morrison and Jacobs’ works are mainly chosen to be analyzed; however, some other sample slave narratives are also used to further investigate the women and mothers’ representation in literary works. This piece of writing mostly attempts to find whether there is a slave mother-child relationship or not and how it is portrayed in both works.
