Phytoremediation: Cissus quadrangularis L. as a phytoremediator for cadmium and lead toxicity

Population explosion and human activities have increased the release of heavy metals into the environment. Contamination of soil, water and air has directly and indirectly affected health and environment. Heavy metal contamination is deleterious and remediation has become inevitable Cadmium and lead have synergistic action and their pollution level are in the increase. Phytoremediation has economic feasibility, agronomical value, is consistent and safe . This book gives an insight in using plant biomass as remediator for cadmium and lead contamination. It shows the extent of damage it causes to the soil by way of plant growth and it recommends the need and use of cissus quadrangularis . L.as a potent remediator of heavy metal. The research done will be of use to farmers and environmental biologist in containing heavy metal toxicity by phytostabilisation , an insitu mode of remediation.
