Description

The monograph sets out to provide a concise account of testing in the field of second language pragmatics together with some background on the domain of pragmatics. With ever increasing interest among the scholars to research pragmatics and long after they had investigated the teachability of second language pragmatics commonly known as interlanguage pragmatics (ILP) (Golato, 2003; Cohen, 2008), attention was given to testing pragmatics. ILP examines how nonnative speakers comprehend and produce action in the second language and investigates how language learners develop the ability to understand and perform action in the target language (Kasper and Rose, 2002). Second language pragmatics testing is a new field of inquiry and related research conducted up to date, despite being insightful, leaves a lot to be desired.
