(Mis)Representations: Intersections of Culture and Power

This book brings together several essays presented at the Seventh International Seminar on Culture and Power, held at the University of Alcal in October 2001. The conference set out to study the ways in which the notions of representation and mis-representation are related to the (mis)uses of power in the English-speaking world. Topics covered in the essays include the relationship between anthropology and literature, textual depictions of the city, and the representation of the (post)colonial world. The contributors also explore the validity of the categories of class, gender and race in a literary, cultural and educational context.
