Geomorphological systems in such environments are highly complex and difficult to study due to seasonally extreme conditions. The papers reflect the need to increase our understanding of the basic processes important in this regions; of the effects of seasonality on interactions between abiotic processes; and on relationships between climatic parameters and processes.
