Description

Comprehensive Guide and Muscle Atlas for Needle Electromyography serves as a guide for those practicing clinical neurophysiology, EMG, and related subjects. It is also expected that the people of other disciplines will also benefit from this book as a reference in their efforts of communicating with the electrophysiologists. The book is organized in three main sections:First, the topics of needle EMG, single fiber EMG and quantitative EMG are discussed with several examples. Common procedures in EMG investigations, expected findings in main types of pathologies, and the parameters used for quantitation of the signals obtained in different phases of an EMG study are provided. The second section is devoted to the skeletal muscles of the head, body and extremities. The terminology of Federative Committee on Anatomical Terminology, FCAT has been adopted and some corresponding ancient and modern language terms for the muscles are listed. Each related muscle is elaborated in original illustrations also demonstrating their associated nerve, radix and plexus. Illustrations that present the position of each muscle with respect to other muscles of the same group are included as a guideline. Introductory information about the origin, insertion, innervation, vascular supply and function of each muscle is supplied. For the neurophysiologically important ones, their detailed aspects like variations, techniques of needle insertion, relaxation/activation maneuvers, general clinical information, points of importance and precautions/pitfalls have been included. For such muscles the position of the needle in the muscle and on the skin are also shown in separate drawings. The last section is dedicated to the lists of skeletal muscles arranged under four subtitles, namely with respect to their topographic locations, functions, root innervations and nerve innervations.
