El viajero del siglo is an ambitious experiment. It invites us to look at the 20th Century with 19th-Century eyes. Searching for an inn to spend the night, Hans stops his horse-drawn carriage in Wandernburgo, a city located between Saxony and Prussia. The following day he happens upon an organ grinder in the citys market square. Moved by the music, he approaches the man, giving him some money. The become fast-friends and Hans stay in the town extends indefinitely. In a reception party for personalities and prominent families, Hans meets other ardent individuals and, more importantly, the daughter of one of them, a woman named Sophie. Even though the young woman is engaged, a love is unfolds between them that threatens a masked murderer that patrols the city.

El viajero del siglo es un ambicioso experimento. Propone volver a mirar el siglo xix con la perspectiva del xxi. Buscando una posada para pasar la noche, Hans detiene su coche de caballos en Wandernburgo, una ciudad entre Sajonia y Prusia. Se queda un dia mas y, al siguiente en la Plaza del Mercado, se fija en un anciano que toca el organillo. Emocionado por la musica, se acerca a dejarle una propina y a conversar con el. Pronto entablan amistad y la estancia de Hans se alarga indefinidamente. En una recepcion de personalidades y familias importantes, conoce a unos apasionados contertulios y, sobre todo, a Sophie, la hija de uno de ellos. Aunque la joven esta comprometida, surge el amor al que amenaza un enmascarado asesino que ronda la ciudad.
