Description ▲
About a decade back, when I started teaching MIS in the MBA course, I felt that Indian students should have access to a book written from an Indian perspective with an international standpoint. Most MIS books written for Indian students have little or no topics at all which is relevant to the Indian context. I wanted to write a book on Management Information Systems that was not just about the technology but also about management. I wanted to write a book that would have Indian cases to elaborate each concept. Indian cases have been incorporated in this book, making it a comprehensive text on management information systems for major Indian Universities and B Schools. The cases have been drawn from both government and business contexts so that the readers understand the universality and appeal of the subject. My main objectives of writing this book are to: • Introduce the basic principles of management information systems. • Convey that management information system is not about technology alone. It is more about management and the support it gives to decision-makers. • Explain that the management information system in India requires a unique and indigenous treatment. • Introduce the reader to the finer aspects of management information system through Indian case studies. • Cover the latest topics on the technological development of management information systems. The book has sixteen chapters each covering a critical area of management information system. Each chapter has learning objectives, chapter contents, topics in sections, summary of the chapters, key terms, multiple choice questions, critical exercises, group exercises, project work, further readings and references. The chapters are written so that they are self-contained. The book also has appendices which cover topics that will help the readers to understand the concept of MIS better.
