Climate Change: An Asian Perspective

The warming of the climate system has been unequivocal. Growing atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases is leading to global warming. Climate change is the greatest externality the world has ever seen. It is expected to have a wide-ranging impact on the lives of millions the world over, and more significantly in Asia. For example, while South Asian countries like India, Pakistan, and Nepal are getting more vulnerable to increased frequency and intensity of droughts, the countries of Southeast Asia, with humid climates, suffer from extreme events, such as tropical cyclones. Drawing upon evidence from Asian countries, this book raises important issues concerning water, agriculture, drought, health, gender, livelihoods, carbon trading, and data gaps in understanding climate change impacts. It has also raised a number of policy questions relating to climate change adaptation and mitigation.
