Description

This scholarly study successfully refutes the fashionable stand of Western Indologists that Bhakti has no place in the Rigveda by going deep into the meaning of many hymns to show that it is definitely present in it. More details: Western philologists like Max Muller, Winternitz and others have grossly misinterpreted the seer-composers spiritual vision behind the outward materialistic form to conclude that they were nothing more than primitive people praying for ordinary material gifts. The present study not only exposes the errors of such so-called scholarship but provides ample material to prove the Rigvedic seer-poets divine urge. It also argues convincingly that the apparent henotheism of the Rigveda does not contradict devotion to a personal deity. In fact it shows how Rigvedic Bhakti was a precursor of the later Bhakti movement.
