Picture Gandhi

Gandhi mesmerised the world born almost a century ago but so relevant even today. Precisely because of this larger than life image, however, he remains at a hallowed distance. How do we bring him to a child of today? Picture Gandhi does this by heading off the beaten track and following Gandhi himself, in spirit as much as chronology. By avoiding the usual jargon associated with him, it shakes off the aura. The tone is affectionate, and the author uses a childlike directness in her narration to get up close and intimate. This is reinforced visually too. Thought bubbles paraphrase Gandhi s words and peep into his mind. While old black and white photographs give a sense of his time, colourful, tactile elements contemporise them and add interesting comments so that the final picture is that of a man of history, but also a man for all times.
