Beyond

At the end of life, on the voyage to beyond it, the brain, judged by ancient wisdom no less than by modern science to constitute the seat of thought, undergoes a transformation. What happens? This is the theme that Beyond addresses, by way of experiences reported in various sources and collected by a voyager who traveled to the edges of the mind in the course of the many adventures of a long, full, and varied life. Does something more await us in the great beyond? Do our memories—no matter their vehicle—hold some strand that permits us to continue to be ourselves? The machinery of information technology presents itself as a previously inconceivable route towards answers to such questions, and lies at the heart of the narrative, in the company of the notion of intelligence that guides the flow of the adventure which the book relates. It’s an adventure which each and every one of us will one day be able to experience, encountering persons and situations which link to one another by way of mysterious laws of affinity. Many of us look forward to that day, the ultimate adventure, others fear it. This book, of which the reader too is a protagonist, attempts to explore it.
