Die Festschrift vereinigt 36 wissenschaftliche Beitrage von Kollegen und Schulern des Jubilars, die unter den Themenkomplexen "Fruhes Christentum", "Agypten und Nubien", "Syrisches Christentum", "Armenien, Georgien und Zentralasien", "Byzanz" und "Arabische Welt" zusammengefasst werden. Die Spannweite der Themen reicht von der Soziologie des Neuen Testaments bis zur Stadtentwicklung Aleppos im 19. Jahrhundert und spiegelt damit das reiche Interessenspektrum des Gefeierten.
