Description ▲
This book will address issues related to the demography of race and ethnicity—defined broadly—with particular emphasis on differential growth rates, stratification, and conflict. The volume will consist of approximately 36 chapters divided into various sections broken down by region/continent of the world. The introduction will set the stage for the 34 substantive chapters. To obtain a degree of comparability, each chapter will address common themes such as: a demographic profile of the county; historical overview of the country and racial/ethnic conflict; the most salient demographic trends and issues that the country faces; theoretical issues related to the linkages between stratification, demography, and conflict; methodological issues including quality of data and cutting-edge methods to better understand the issue at hand; and the future of the existing demographic and related trends and issues with particular emphasis on public policy and human rights. The conclusion chapter will highlight the major findings from the substantive chapters, discuss the commonalities and differences that they bear, draw out the policy and human rights implications of the work examined, and offer an agenda for future research related to stratification, demography, and conflict.
