Description ▲
Large Group Intervention methods have gained their own place in the practice of organisational change and development. However, sustainable change is not to be expected from a one-time and short large group event. Effective organisational change requires a good match of intervention design and performance on the one hand and circumstances and intended effects on the other. The large group meetings have to be embedded in a larger participative process, the Large Scale Intervention (LSI). But when and how is an LSI likely to contribute to sustainable change? How do we know that time-consuming involvement of stakeholders is or was worth the effort? This book presents an evidence based guide for the practice of participative organisational change, in particular with the whole system approach called Large Scale Interventions (LSI), also known as Whole Systems Change. The guide offers an instrument and tools for systematic evaluation of interventions. The construction of the practical guide is presented as an educated, reflective inquiry, offering a synthesis of the field of LSI practice world-wide. The guide is based on six years of applied social research and extensive personal experience as a practitioner of participative interventions. “If there are more dilemmas of this work than the ones you have collected, I can't imagine what they are. I believe that with the guide, and your interactive meetings, you have made a major contribution to the discussion of Large Group Interventions.†- Marvin Weisbord, founding father of Future Search, writer of the bestseller Productive Workplaces “The work you are doing is very important to the field right now. It is moving us towards thinking whole again, thinking underlying principles and ways of being with the groups we work with rather than thinking methodologies! Your guide will be the provocateur to bring all our best to any work.†- Sylvia James, partner Dannemiller Tyson Associates and co-author of Whole-Scale Change, Berrett-Koehler 2000 “There is a lot of talk about how you measure the outcomes of Large Group Interventions and why there is so little research done. We want to establish common ground across methods.†- Barbara Bunker, author of many books and articles books on Large Group Methods
