‘My Brother and I’ is a sequel to Pride and Prejudice - from a completely different point of view. The protagonist (and narrator) is a young man of no consequence, looking in on Jane Austen's world from the outside, but eventually becoming inextricably drawn into the very fibre of Pemberley. Edward Benton is the farrier's apprentice. As a boy he had been sent to a good school, but his mysterious patron suddenly and inexplicably cut him off, forcing him to earn his keep as a labourer. Unassuming, amiable and very talented, Edward wins the hearts of everyone at Pemberley. The power of his art forges friendships and leads to unexpected love; and brings a lady from the brink of madness.
