Framing Urban Renewal in Flanders

At the end of the 20th century, Barcelona, London and Berlin set the tone for urban renewal in Europe, but a unique approach adopted by the region of Flanders in Belgium seems to be providing new forms of vision and leadership in this area. The magic formula contains a special kind of directed subsidy: offering smaller towns, which often have less planning capacity and project experience, the opportunity to develop high-quality urban renewal projects. This book provides a critical retrospective through texts and images spanning six years of practice in which 15 towns have received urban renewal subsidies.
