Art Fairs

The gallery owner has many qualities, from a small merchant to a dynamic trader. The same counts for his visitors, who show up in all sorts and sizes. Dolph Kessler photographed them in the stands of the large art exhibitions in London, Cologne, Amsterdam, Basel, Paris and Miami Beach. The photographs are fascinating tableaux vivants. The participants in the tableau enter into a relation which is not always very clear but the spectator cannot resist to make his own story. An special part is played by the pieces of art that add an extra dimension. Mise en scenes from the art world gives a view of the world of art exhibitions but at the same time it is about human relations, see and to be seen, natural and unnatural behaviour and massiveness and individuality. The viewer is forced by Dolph Kessler's photographs to determine his position in these matters. That is its great achievement.
