Description

Modern antenna designs are often based on computer-aided design (CAD). Therefore, today's antenna designer needs an overall knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and limitations of the different analysis methods. In addition, some analytical skill is needed to make fast initial designs and to develop simple solutions for verification of the computations. There may also be a need to combine different analysis methods. In these cases, the designer needs enough analytical and theoretical background to do the combination correctly.

Antennas are normally studied in the transmit mode. Recently, and in particular relation to signal processing antennas it has become common to perform a detailed receive mode analysis. These analyses are more accurate if a complete equivalent circuit of the receiving antenna is used. Therefore, unique to this book is the presentation of equivalent circuits for reception.

This book is the result of the author's extensive experience teaching the Microwave Antennas course at Chalmers Unversity of Technology. The design figures in the book were computed and created using Mathcad. Available to purchasers of this book is a free CD-ROM that contains all the computer programs that were developed in Mathcad and they are cross referenced in the text itself. The Mathcad documents can be viewed and used by the reader to recalculate the results in the book and to generate new results for other dimensions. These Mathcad documents can be used without purchasing extra software.
