Achieving Educational Quality: What Schools Teach us - Learning from Chile's P900 Primary Schools

Education reform has been a major undertaking in Latin America in the 1990s. In Chile, the emphasis of reform is on improving the quality and equity of education in the public sector. This publication presents an analysis on the primary schools of Chile showing the lessons that can be learnt about achieving quality in basic education. The study focuses on poor children in poor schools. In addition to discussing policy issues, the publication also presents in-depth school reports and a synthesis of the lessons learned from school interviews. It also offers proposals in some key areas and presents the views of students and school officials on Chile's programme for its 900 poorest primary schools, the "P900 Programme."
