The AQUASTAT programme was initiated with a view to presenting a comprehensive picture of water resources and irrigation in developing countries and providing systematic, up-to-date and reliable information on water for agriculture and development. This report presents the result of the most recent survey carries out in the 53 countries of Africa, and it analyses the changes that have occurred in the ten years since the first survey. A general summary presents a synopsis on water resources and development, irrigation and drainage in the region. The CD-ROM accompanying this report contains detailed profiles on the situation in each country.
