Architecture of the Essential: The 6th International Alvar Aalto Symposium

Taking as an inspiration the immediate post-World War II period of Aalto's career,
when he energetically developed many innovative projects for Finnish reconstruction,
this meeting of the well-known symposium looked at how architecture reacts to a
circumstance when so many people can afford only the bare essentials. The question
is, what are the fundamental material and spiritual living conditions vital for our
culture to survive and prosper?
