Chinese Traders in a Philippine Town: From Daily Competition to Urban Transformation

From Acknowledgments: This work is a contribution to the ethnography of commercial town life in the Philippines. It intends to capture the less orthodox aspects associated with the Chinese trade community of a provincial market town in the hope of deepening our understanding of such communities, and of changes they and their urban context in the Philippines have recently experienced. The time span of this essay is 1950 to 2000 and the location is Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
