In the Shadow of Death

There are few things in life that are as certain as death. Yet how many of us are prepared for it? We shy away from the topic and think people are morbid when they do their wills or leave instructions regarding the nature and type of funeral they would like. The author s encounters with a dying friend, Betty, reinforced his conviction that people need help with handling death and dying. There comes a time in every life when we will have to care for those who are terminally ill, comfort the bereaved or even grapple with our own death. How do we cope with these situations? In this book, the author shares knowledge culled from years of teaching and counselling people on death and dying. More importantly, his journey with Betty has resulted in him being able to share in a more practical way on how to be a fellow traveller. While In the Shadow of Death aims at preparing and equipping caregivers to respond to situations where their loved ones are dying, it is also the author s hope that our awareness of the whole issue will help us to better live our lives.
