“Discipline at Work” is the result of more than three decades of research on industrial discipline and case laws on discipline done by the author. There have been many books published in the past on employment issues but this is the first time a comprehensive book is being published covering the area of discipline at the workplace. Civil servants who have retired have a vast repository of experiences and knowledge, which untapped is a great loss to the community. Ganapathy’s willingness to share his knowledge and experiences through this book is certainly welcome and there is no doubt that it will become a reference manual for managers, personnel practitioners, industrial lawyers, industrial relations officers and any one interested in the workings of our industrial tribunals. The book covers every aspect of discipline beginning with the contract of employment, dealing with probationers, the various forms of misconduct, domestic inquiries, punishment and the remedies under industrial law. The various chapters have been assembled to give the reader a good perspective on the issues on discipline and how the industrial tribunals look at decisions of employers in this area. The author has also included sample draft letters and some salient provisions in the appendix as an added bonus to managers/employers who may need help in this area.
