Implementing Smart Card Technology in e-Government Environments

The US Federal government is taking an active role in the implementation of smart card technology. A smart card is a simple plastic device resembling a credit card that contains sensitive information about an employee (medical history, security clearance, banking records) and allows the exchange of data between multiple applications.
