Description

The Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI recently conducted a Survey on the Current State of Commercial Property/Casualty Insurance Markets. Survey respondents were drawn from senior executives with corporate responsibility for risk management at Alliance member companies. The survey was designed to develop information regarding the current state of the commercial property/casualty insurance industry. To provide for timeliness and relevancy, survey input was limited to information from companies that have renewed certain coverages since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The lines of coverage included in the survey are property, general liability, automobile liability, workers compensation, directors and officers liability, and aviation/aircrafts products liability. Information has been developed in four general areas: premiums; market capacity; deductibles/retentions; and exclusions. Also included in an appendix to the report are insightful and detailed anecdotes and impressions from respondents Not surprisingly, the survey found increasing premiums and reduced coverages, especially on property markets, since September 11. The survey will serve as a valuable resource for risk managers who have primary responsibility for implementing their companies insurance programs, and who desire real-time examples of what others have experienced during insurance negotiations since the 9/11 tragedy.
