the Professional Soldier

This study is an attempt to describe the professional life, organizational setting, and the leadership of the American military as they have evolved during the first half of the 20th century. Treating the military profession as an object of social inquiry enables a fuller and more accurate assessment of its power position in American society and of its behavior in international relations.
