Foreword -
I have abstracted these records of Sumner County, Tennessee from microfilm provided by the Tennessee State Library, to whom I am grateful. Very large numbers of native Texans grow up knowing that they have rather mystical connections with the State of Tennessee - - either through family ties of their own, or the fact that so many Tennesseans sided in the gaining of Texas Independence, and the establishment of the Republic and State.
Working with courthouse records began when I was age 12, and my father (Exline Martin) and grandfather (John Wilbur Martin) put me to "work" in their County Surveyor's office in Ellis County, Texas, and at the age of 16 I was spending each summer working in various abstract offices in Texas for my mother (Ruth Martin Douglas). I owe them much - - both the "know how" and my love of working with land records.
